Registered Psychologist Michael Jimenez talked to high school students of St. Anthony School of Las Pinas regarding Mental Health Awareness. Jimenez discussed with the students the challenges of being an adolescent and its implications on mental health - adolescence being a critical period for developing and maintaining social and emotional well-being. He reiterated the importance of striking a balance in terms of physical and emotional well-being - talking about the basics of sleeping and eating and then progressing to topics of coping, problem solving, interpersonal skills and emotional management.
The World Health Organization states that one in six people are aged 10–19 years. Mental health conditions account for 16% of the global burden of disease and injury in people aged 10–19 years. Half of all mental health conditions start by 14 years of age but most cases are undetected and untreated. Globally, depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents.
