Registered Psychologist Michael Jimenez talked about Mental Health among members of the LGBT group in an event sponsored by the Municipality of Guiguinto Bulacan.
Issues on mental health among LGBTQ groups include discrimination, prejudice, denial of civil and human rights, harassment and family rejection.
He related National Alliance on Mental Information (NAMI) stating the following about LGBTQ and mental health
LGBTQ adults are MORE THAN TWICE AS LIKELY as heterosexual adults to experience a mental health condition
LGBTQ people are AT A HIGHER RISK than the general population for suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts
High school students who identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual are almost FIVE TIMES AS LIKELY to attempt suicide compared to their heterosexual peers.
Hence, he stated how pertinent it is to identify the crisis that the LGBTQ community experience and how each member of the society can help facilitate a healthier and more accepting approach to members of the LGBT community.
